DRM is a technology that allows to protect the distributed content by allowing copyright owners to grant only accurate licenses about use of digital downloaded content. Televideocom manages different DRM technologies:

Play Ready

Microsoft Playready Microsoft PlayReady is the latest encryption system by Microsoft (internationally recognized and used), a Microsoft's Digital Rights Management (DRM), for fixed and portable devices. PlayReady can supported by any kind of device (using Microsoft Silverlight technology), even with non-Microsoft operating system (eg MAC). The Silverlight PlayReady supports the protection of streaming or progressive download contents.

To use Playready you need to encode video content through the IIS Smooth Streaming output option and to use a Microsoft Silverlight template. When DRM technology is increased in content, all users who wish to display it must have a license. In addition, it is possible to specify which operation user can perform with the content, from simple playback to copying and distribution.

DRM technology can be implemented in various ways. In Expression Encoder it is possible to encrypt the content to make it compatible with Microsoft PlayReady technology. After implementing the PlayReady’s DRM protection, it is possible to publish the content on the Web server or send it in live mode, with the certainty that it will not be used in other ways than the specified ones. The license obtained by PlayReady server may be specific to location, device or network domain.

PlayReady supports DRM in several situations in which the content is made available for use or distribution, including the ones as follows:

  • Download and content stream by using a Silverlight template.
  • Content made available for timed use based on subscriptions or rentals.
